HACC has announced the date for a decision on Stefanishyna's pretrial detention

The High Anti-Corruption Court has completed consideration of the motion to impose a preventive measure against former Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Olga Stefanishyna. The judge has retired to the deliberation room.

The decision is planned to be announced on August 6. Until its announcement, it is unknown whether the court will grant the prosecution's motion and what procedural restrictions may be applied to Stefanishyna.

The proceedings are related to the case of the alleged embezzlement of 2.5 million hryvnias allocated to the Ministry of Justice in 2013–2014 for comparative legal research on Ukrainian legislation and European Union law.

According to the prosecution, the procured research did not meet the stated scope and cost. Along with Stefanishyna, former Justice Minister Olena Lukash and other former employees of the ministry are involved in the case. The defendants are charged with embezzlement of state funds on a particularly large scale.

The indictment was sent to the HACC in September 2023. The trial on the merits is ongoing. Under the Constitution of Ukraine, individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
