Russia launches fake campaign for the anniversary of the Kursk Operation

Russian propaganda has intensified an information campaign to mark the second anniversary of the Kursk Operation by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Its goal is to discredit the Ukrainian military and spread unsubstantiated allegations of crimes against the civilian population.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.

According to the CCD, Russian Z-channels are telling about "heroic battles" that allegedly lasted nine months, and emphasize the "unbelievable courage" of the Russian army in confronting the superior forces of Ukraine.

The Center noted that these statements differ from the behavior of Russian propagandists in August 2024. At the start of the Kursk Operation, many of them hushed up what was happening and tried to create the impression that nothing extraordinary had taken place in the region.

Simultaneously, Russian resources are circulating accusations against the Ukrainian Defense Forces, asserting about alleged crimes committed against peaceful residents of the Kursk region. In particular, the Russian Commissioner for Human Rights Yana Lantratova claims that the fate of some 300 residents of the region remains unknown.

The CCD emphasized that the Russian side has not presented verifiable evidence confirming such accusations. The Center believes that such reports are aimed at creating a distorted perception of the Kursk Operation and glorifying Russia's war against Ukraine.

At the same time, Russian propaganda hushes up regular missile and drone attacks by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure, the CCD stressed.
