Zelensky instructed to prepare a sanctions operation against Russia

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed to develop a clear plan for a special sanctions operation that should limit the capabilities of the Russian military industry.

The head of state reported this after a coordination meeting on all types of sanctions against Russia.

The main task of the sanctions policy, according to Zelenskyy, is to constantly increase pressure that will not allow Russia to adapt to the existing restrictions. According to him, Moscow is trying to find new supply channels and replace sanctioned companies.

Meeting participants separately considered the dependence of the Russian military-industrial complex on foreign components. The president noted that critical foreign-made components are being found in Russian missiles, drones, and most other types of weapons.

Without access to such parts, Russia would not be able to produce some of the weapons used in the war against Ukraine, Zelenskyy stressed. Therefore, new restrictions should target not only Russian enterprises but also the links that allow them to receive necessary goods and technologies from other countries.

A separate topic of the meeting was foreign machine tools and production technologies used by Russian defense enterprises. According to the president, in these areas Russia is lagging several generations behind and is incapable of independently creating some of the required equipment.

Zelenskyy stated the need to increase pressure on the channels connecting Russian industry with external suppliers. This should complicate the production of missiles, drones, and other weapons that require foreign parts, equipment, and technologies.

The future sanctions operation should be targeted. The president reported that its plan will cover specific companies and certain directions important for the Russian military-industrial complex.

Each participant in the coordination meeting received individual assignments. Zelenskyy demanded the full implementation of these assignments but did not give a timeline for the plan's preparation and did not disclose the list of enterprises against which restrictions may be introduced.

The statement also does not specify what measures will be included in the new package and whether Ukraine will seek their simultaneous introduction by international partners. Details of the planned sanctions operation are expected to appear after its preparation is completed.
