Zelensky discussed cooperation and recovery with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting in Kyiv on Thursday, August 6, with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov. The head of state announced the visit of the Azerbaijani diplomat on social networks.

The meeting took place against the backdrop of intensified political dialogue between Kyiv and Baku. The Ukrainian side has not yet disclosed the detailed agenda of the current negotiations and the agreements reached. There have also been no reports of the signing of new documents.

The current visit continues a series of contacts that began after Zelensky's trip to Azerbaijan in late April. At that time, the presidents of Ukraine and Azerbaijan, Volodymyr Zelensky and Ilham Aliyev, held talks on the development of bilateral relations and further cooperation.

Following the April meetings, representatives of the two countries signed six documents. Among them was an agreement on legal assistance in civil and commercial matters, designed to simplify judicial cooperation and interaction between Ukrainian and Azerbaijani businesses.

Foreign Ministers Andriy Sybih and Jeyhun Bayramov then identified the priority areas of cooperation as energy, economy, political dialogue, humanitarian aid, and the recovery of Ukrainian children.

In May, the heads of foreign policy agencies separately discussed the implementation of the agreements reached by the presidents. The parties also exchanged assessments of the situation in the sphere of regional security and agreed to maintain active contacts.

Ukraine has repeatedly thanked Azerbaijan for supporting its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for humanitarian aid. Deliveries of equipment to restore the energy infrastructure damaged by Russian strikes are of particular importance for Kyiv.

Ukraine and Azerbaijan are also exploring opportunities to expand economic and transport cooperation. Among the promising areas previously mentioned were trade, energy, infrastructure restoration, and the development of routes between Europe, the Black Sea region, the Caucasus, and Central Asia.

Exactly which issues Zelensky and Bayramov discussed during the meeting on August 6, and whether new practical decisions will be adopted based on its results, have not yet been specified.
