Ministry of Education reports on preparing schools for the academic year
The Cabinet of Ministers heard a report from the Ministry of Education and Science on preparing educational institutions for the beginning of the 2026/2027 academic year.
This was reported by Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Koretskyi.
The government is reviewing the state of school infrastructure, readiness of shelters, provision of textbooks, organization of meals, and the possibility of safe in-person or blended learning in wartime conditions.
In the new academic year, schools should receive about 14 million copies of educational literature for fourth and ninth grade students and teachers. Publishers will for the first time deliver the entire print run directly to educational institutions, and book acceptance will be processed through the electronic system AIKOM.
From September 1, it is planned to provide free hot meals to all students in grades 1–11 of communal schools who study in-person or in a blended format. The program will cover about 3 million children, and the state will additionally allocate over 7.4 billion UAH for its funding in September–November.
Special attention is being paid to protective structures. In the spring, the government distributed over 2 billion UAH among 30 communities for the construction of shelters in educational institutions located primarily in areas with a high level of threat.
The Ministry of Education also instructed heads of educational institutions to check heating, electricity supply, and fire safety systems, prepare evacuation plans, and define procedures during air raids and possible power outages.
The prime minister did not specify which regions or educational institutions have not yet completed their preparations and what additional decisions will be made based on the report.
