Slovak police reminded Ukrainians about the electronic appointment procedure for switching from temporary protection status to temporary residence. The simplified procedure has been in effect since 15 July 2026.

To submit an application, you must first book an appointment through the reservation system of the Ministry of the Interior of Slovakia. When booking, you need to select:

  • the DOČASNÉ ÚTOČISKO section — "Temporary protection";
  • the service ŽIADOSŤ O VYDANIE DOKLADU DOČASNÉ ÚTOČISKO/PRECHOD Z DOČASNÉHO ÚTOČISKA NA POBYT — "Application for the issuance of a temporary protection document/transition from temporary protection to residence".

The police warned that they will not be able to process the application if the person has booked an appointment under a different category. Appointments can be booked no earlier than 21 days before the desired date.

Ukrainians who have been working, studying, running a business, or have another legal basis for temporary residence in Slovakia for at least six months can use the simplified transition.

The following must be submitted to the police for foreigners: a passport, proof of the purpose of stay, proof of accommodation, and a certificate of no criminal record from Ukraine issued no more than 90 days ago. The certificate requirement does not apply to children under the age of 14. If the set of documents is incomplete, the application will not be accepted.

A decision on the applicant's compliance with the set conditions is to be communicated within 60 days. After that, the residence document must be issued within 30 days. The duration of temporary residence will depend on the document confirming its purpose, but as a general rule it will not exceed two years.

Ukrainians are advised to assess in advance the consequences of changing status: after obtaining temporary residence, temporary protection in Slovakia ceases. Currently, temporary protection for Ukrainians in the country is valid until 4 March 2027.
