Dollar Rises in Exchange Offices of Major Cities
On Monday, August 10, the National Bank set the following official exchange rates: - US dollar – 44.7579 UAH (-0.0047 UAH to the official rate on Friday, August 7); - euro – 51.6148 UAH (-0.0569 UAH to the official rate on Friday, August 7).
Rates were set at 4:00 PM on August 7 and reflect the following trends:
1. For the third consecutive day on the interbank foreign exchange market, the same situation repeats: immediately after the start of trading on the interbank currency market, quotations went up and by 11:16 rose from 44.61 to 44.79 UAH on the bid side. The average transaction price at 12:00 was 44.7619 UAH – 1.3 kopecks higher than on Thursday. The National Bank entered the market with interventions after 2:00 PM. Its sales led to the dollar depreciating to 44.71 UAH. As a result, the average price slightly decreased compared to the value at 12:00. Therefore, the National Bank lowered the official dollar rate for Monday, August 10, by 0.5 kopecks.
2. The euro on the international FOREX market sharply rose on Friday after the release of US employment data and by 4:00 PM reached the level of 1.1580 dollars. At the time of fixing, the euro was sold at 1.1532 – 11.5 points lower than on Thursday (1.15435 dollars). Therefore, the NBU lowered the official euro rate by 5.7 kopecks.
On the cash market today, prices increased somewhat. Whereas on Thursday evening, in the capital, the dollar was sold at 44.68 UAH, today towards evening its price rose to 44.76 UAH. The dollar also increased in other cities: in Odessa it rose by 1 kopeck, in Dnipro – by 3, in Kharkiv – by 4 kopecks. Only in Lviv did its price remain unchanged today. Nevertheless, so far fluctuations in cash currency prices are rather insignificant.
