Ukraine’s govt identified the areas where the restoration of energy facilities damaged by Russian strikes needs to be accelerated. Corresponding instructions were given following a meeting of the Energy HQ chaired by Prime Minister Sergey Koretsky.

At the meeting they discussed the forecast balances of electricity and gas, considering various scenarios for getting through the coming winter. The participants also separately analyzed the progress of repair works at generating capacities and the installation of additional protection for energy facilities.

One of the govt’s top priorities is to protect critical infrastructure. Also, energy companies are to build up emergency reserves of fuel and equipment in order to restore facilities faster in the event of new damage.

According to Koretsky, the meeting helped decide where works need to be accelerated right now, given the intensity and nature of Russian attacks. The PM stressed that energy companies must stay ahead and be prepared for various scenarios.

Attending the meeting were First Deputy PM – Energy Minister Denis Shmygal, as well as heads of Naftogaz, Ukrenergo, Energoatom, Ukrhydroenergo, Centrenergo, DTEK and Gas TSO of Ukraine. They presented data on the state of the power system and preparations for winter.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the PM gave relevant instructions to the specialized ministries and companies. The Energy Ministry is in charge of coordinating the work and monitoring their implementation.

Preparing the energy system for winter remains one of the priorities of the new govt. Koretsky, who was appointed PM by the Verkhovna Rada on July 16, 2026, had, when presenting the Cabinet’s program of work, named preparation for the heating season one of the key tasks.
