Trump demanded compensation from Iran in response to Hormuz conditions
US President Donald Trump stated that Washington would raise its own compensation demands toward Iran after Tehran demanded war reparations and access to frozen assets as part of negotiations on the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
In an August 10 Truth Social post, Trump noted that Iran's claim for reparations had not been previously raised in talks. In response, the US President instructed his representatives to include American grievances in all future discussions with Tehran.
Trump stated that Iran should compensate the families of Americans killed or maimed in conflicts where Washington linked attacks to Iranian forces and Tehran-backed proxies. He specifically mentioned devastating roadside bomb attacks and the role of former Quds Force Commander Qassem Soleimani.
The American President also mentioned the families of sailors killed in the attack on the destroyer USS Cole. The FBI's investigation, however, established that the bombing of the American vessel off Yemen in October 2000, which killed 17 sailors, was planned and carried out by members of the al-Qaeda terrorist network.
Furthermore, Trump demanded payments for the families of Iranians who have died as a result of the regime's internal repression. The US President said the American side intended to enshrine these demands as part of their future negotiations with Iran.
A claim has been made against Tehran as multilateral negotiations continue over the Strait of Hormuz, the world's most critical oil supertanker checkpoint. Tehran demands maritime routes to international waters, an end to US naval blockades and sanctions, compensations for war damage, and the release of detained tankers. Tehran insists that legitimate passage through the strait cannot be safely restored without meeting these conditions.
The United States already holds the opposite position. In July Trump stated that damage to tankers and cargo interests stung by thousands of seizures should be compensated through the multibillion-dollar frozen Iranian asset reserves controlled by Washington. In retaliatory threats, Iran vows to deny passage through the Strait of Hormuz to vessels and firms accepting such payouts in the Gulf.
The standoffs over sanctions provisions remain publicly unresolved. Following the mutual spite headlines from Tehran and Washington, jittery oil-tracker funds lurched defensively, with first light crude price markers jacking upward in hasty stroke; alarms ignited throughout nervous worldwide paper markets. An imminent choke collar tightening around Hormuz crossing flashed sporadic delivery premiums flaring within all frantic official opening watch circles, sharply reacting primary nervous signals to incalculably grueling choke-spasm anxieties breathing heavy spiral ascent trauma about ±4% climb potential vanishing-choke-crisis rate volatility.
