In Lviv region, 16 million UAH were accrued to servicemen without participation in combat

In the Lviv region, a former acting commander of a military unit was notified of suspicion due to undue accrual of 16 million UAH of "combat" payments to servicemen. According to the investigation, some recipients did not actually participate in combat operations.

During 2023–2024, documents entitling servicemen to increased remuneration were drawn up in one of the military units of the region without proper verification. The documents claimed that the servicemen had participated in combat operations and performed tasks granting them the right to additional payments.

The National Police asserts that some servicemen were not on the line of direct contact at all. Despite this, the then 34‑year‑old acting commander of the unit signed some of the orders for the additional accruals.

The investigation believes that the officer had information about the whereabouts of his subordinates but nevertheless approved the payments to those who were not entitled to them. Documents were drawn up without proper verification of the servicemen's actual location and the nature of the tasks they performed. Based on these documents, the servicemen received a higher remuneration of up to 100 thousand UAH.

As a result, a total of 16 million UAH in “combat” payments was unjustifiably accrued to the servicemen. The former acting commander was notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — negligent attitude to military service. The article's sanction stipulates up to eight years of imprisonment.

Law enforcement officers are currently establishing the full list of servicemen who may have been groundlessly granted increased payments, as well as other individuals involved in preparing and endorsing the documents. Possible similar cases are also being examined.
