Russia strikes Zaporizhstal with ballistic missiles: 7 workers killed

As a result of a Russian strike on an industrial site in Zaporizhzhia, 7 Zaporizhstal workers were killed and 21 others were injured.

According to the company, the strike was carried out by a ballistic missile during the night of August 11. The attack occurred after an air raid alert was announced, when the employees were heading to the shelter. The injured are receiving necessary assistance, and the company is also supporting the families of the deceased and wounded.

The Russian strike damaged energy facilities and infrastructure of Metinvest's enterprises in Zaporizhzhia, as well as the main and auxiliary capacities of coke and blast furnace production. Following the attack, operations at the steel plant were completely halted; the remaining production facilities are operating at reduced capacity.

Specialists are assessing the scale of the damage, possible recovery timelines, and carrying out emergency repair work. The company emphasized that its enterprises in Zaporizhzhia are civilian industrial sites where tens of thousands of people work and metallurgical and coke chemical products are manufactured.

In the morning, the authorities reported 6 dead and 19 wounded as the result of the nighttime attack on Zaporizhzhia. Later, the death toll rose to 7 — August 12 was declared a day of mourning in the city.
