The grain terminal in Novorossiysk suspended operations after a massive Ukrainian attack. Demetra Holding, the company that owns the facility, confirmed its damage. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the main target of the operation was the Russian naval base.
On the night of August 12, Novorossiysk in the Krasnodar region of Russia was hit by a combined strike using missiles, air and sea unmanned systems.
According to Zelenskyy, the Defense Forces carried out a unique operation against the naval base in Novorossiysk, located more than 300 kilometers from the front line. The President called it the last major stronghold of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea.
During the operation, Ukrainian military used "Palianytsia" jet drones, "Neptune" missiles, and unmanned surface vessels. Zelenskyy reported confirmed hits on Russian air defense positions, piers, and seaport infrastructure.
It was separately reported that the grain terminal in Novorossiysk halted operations. Its owner, Demetra Holding, confirmed damage to the facility.
The port of Novorossiysk is a crucial export and logistics hub for Russia. It also hosts a base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, where Russian command relocated some ships after Ukrainian strikes on military targets in temporarily occupied Crimea.
Russian authorities confirmed damage to at least four enterprises, 21 residential buildings, and other facilities. Initially, Novorossiysk Mayor Andrey Kravchenko reported six damaged houses, one commercial building, and a construction site.
According to OSINT analysis by Astra, School No. 15, located near the basing site of Russian warships, was also damaged after the attack. A hole appeared in the facade at the first-floor level, and windows were blown out.
Temporary accommodation centers were set up for residents of damaged buildings. According to local authorities, about 90 people are staying there.
As a result of the attack in the Krasnodar region, two people died and 13 were injured. In Novorossiysk, an eight-year-old child died, and eight people, including another child, were hospitalized.
In the village of Volna in the Temryuk district, drone debris fell in the yard of a private house. The injured man died. In Anapa, a residential building was damaged and two people were affected; in Gelendzhik, three private houses were damaged, and two more people were injured.
