Zelensky: strike on Novorossiysk became new stage of long-range operations

On the night of August 12, Ukraine conducted an operation against targets in Russia's Novorossiysk using a large number of various domestic weapons.

This was reported by President Vladimir Zelensky.

According to the head of state, the main difference of this operation was that various Ukrainian systems were for the first time coordinated on such a scale within a single combat mission.

Zelensky called the event another use of Ukrainian "long-range sanctions" — the president's term for strikes on targets in Russia linked to supporting the war against Ukraine. Kyiv is consistently increasing the range and intensity of such operations. Previously, the president said that this campaign targets Russian oil industry facilities, military production, and systemically important logistics.

Novorossiysk has repeatedly been a target of Ukrainian long-range operations. In May, Zelensky confirmed a strike on the oil terminal and transshipment facilities there, stating that such actions are aimed at reducing Russian oil export revenues.

The city is important for Russian military and export logistics on the Black Sea. Significant oil flows pass through Novorossiysk, and after Ukrainian attacks on Black Sea Fleet facilities in occupied Crimea, its role for Russian naval forces has also increased.

The Ukrainian side has not yet disclosed the full list of means used in the night operation and details of their use. Zelensky emphasized specifically the ability of different components to act simultaneously and in coordination.

Earlier, the president said that Ukraine is updating the list of priority targets for long-range operations depending on their impact on Russia's ability to continue the war. According to him, the goal of such strikes is to complicate Russian military production and logistics, as well as increase Moscow's economic losses.
