Government defines main directions of new Cabinet's work
The Government of Ukraine presented a draft Program of Activities of the Cabinet of Ministers, which should determine the main tasks of the new Cabinet. Among the key areas are strengthening defense and state resilience, supporting citizens and businesses, and accelerating European integration. The draft was discussed at a meeting of the Coalition Council on August 13.
Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi said that he presented the document together with members of the government. According to him, it is a comprehensive program with certain priorities and specific tasks that the Cabinet should follow in its further work. At the same time, the published message does not yet contain a full list of measures, amounts of funding or deadlines for the implementation of individual items of the program.
One of the main areas will be defense and enhancing the state's resilience. Even during the formation of the new government, Koretskyi named among the priorities ensuring the Defense Forces, developing the defense industrial complex and preparing the country for work in the conditions of the ongoing war. After his appointment as Prime Minister, he also spoke about the need to concentrate government decisions on supporting those who defend the country and the citizens for whom Ukraine is fighting.
The second major block of the program is related to supporting people and the economy. The government intends to pay attention to business conditions, social policy and the resilience of processes critical to the country. Previously, the Cabinet had already discussed with entrepreneurs access to lending, war risk insurance, protection of logistics and the possibility of providing companies with state premises for dispersing warehouse stocks.
Another priority will be accelerating Ukraine's integration into the European Union. In July, the government and the Verkhovna Rada agreed to strengthen coordination in carrying out reforms and fulfilling international obligations. Among the main directions of legislative work at that time were named support for the Defense Forces, European integration and social policy.
Koretskyi also outlined the principles by which the Cabinet should work: efficiency, quick decision-making and responsibility for results. Specific tasks should be received both by the government as a whole and by individual ministers, who will be responsible for their implementation before the Verkhovna Rada and society.
Work on the program began soon after the formation of the new Cabinet. On July 18, the Prime Minister instructed all ministries to prepare their proposals within seven days. At that time, he also stated that the document should contain specific goals, deadlines for achieving them and measurable results and become a tool for assessing the effectiveness of individual ministries and the government as a whole.
Later, Koretskyi clarified that for each area it is planned to define from three to five priorities with specific deadlines, responsible executors and expected results. Initially, the Prime Minister expected to submit the program of activities of the Cabinet for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada within 30 days.
In preparing the current draft, the government also studied the proposals of people's deputies. After discussion at the Coalition Council, the Cabinet of Ministers intends to take into account the comments made and prepare the final version of the document.
The next stage will be the approval of the final version of the program at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. Only after that will the document be submitted for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada. Thus, the version presented on August 13 is only a draft for now, and the specific content of individual government commitments may change during finalization.
