NBU lowered dollar after balanced trading, euro lost even more
For Friday, August 14, the National Bank set the following official exchange rates: - US dollar – 44.6988 UAH (-0.014 UAH to the official rate for Thursday, August 13); - euro – 51.5543 UAH (-0.0648 UAH to the official rate for Thursday, August 13).
Rates were set at 16:00 on August 13 and reflect the following trends:
1. Thursday's trading on the interbank market took place in a narrow range of 44.675-44.736 UAH on the bid side. Until 13:00, trading was happening with roughly equal supply and demand. The average transaction price at 12:00 was 44.7045 UAH – 7 kopecks lower than yesterday. At 13:00, the National Bank entered the market, but did not put strong pressure on the market: the maximum quotes returned to 44.68 UAH on the bid side, i.e. the level that was already seen in the morning. The average transaction price decreased slightly, so the National Bank lowered the official dollar rate for Friday, August 14 by 1.4 kopecks.
2. The euro on the international FOREX market fell to 1.1512 dollars in the morning on Thursday, and then during the American session (after 16:00) rose to 1.15455 dollars. As we can see, the volatility of the euro has been quite weak for several days now. At the moment of fixing, the euro was sold at 1.15337 – 11 points lower than on Tuesday (1.15445 dollars). Therefore, the NBU reduced the official euro rate by 6.5 kopecks.
On the cash market today, prices changed depending on the region: in the capital and Kharkiv, the dollar fell by 3 kopecks per day, in Odesa – it rose by 2 kopecks, and in Dnipro and Lviv – it remained at the same level. If yesterday evening in Kyiv the dollar was sold at 44.88 UAH, today by the evening its price dropped to 44.85 UAH. The cash market is feeling tired from the constant fluctuations of the interbank market. In addition, with the increase of the monthly limit for online currency operations, the load on it has become slightly lower.
