Zelensky: Intelligence revealed Russia's plans, Ukraine preparing countermeasures
Ukrainian intelligence received updated information about Russia's further plans, after which the country's leadership determined countermeasures. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this on August 14 following a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff.
According to the president, intelligence services reported on the intentions of the aggressor country, but he did not publicly disclose the content of this information.
“Intelligence provided updated information on Russia's plans — we are preparing counteraction and our asymmetric countermeasures,” Zelensky said.
One of the key issues of the meeting was ensuring the needs of the Defense and Security Forces for the upcoming autumn-winter period. The Staff participants identified the main shortages and additional needs of the army, including for the development of new technological types of weapons.
Separately, ways to accelerate the production of Ukrainian strike capabilities and new defense systems were discussed. Among the priorities, Zelensky named jet interceptors. The president did not provide other details regarding the required weapons and additional funding volumes.
The meeting also reviewed the results of Ukrainian long-range operations against Russia. Zelensky called them “long-range sanctions” and noted that the effectiveness of such operations is analyzed weekly. At the same time, the results of medium-range strikes are being evaluated.
According to the head of state, the approved plan is being carried out, but the military leadership is promptly adjusting priorities so that available capabilities correspond to the set goals.
Another part of the meeting concerned the implementation of previous decisions of the Staff and the National Security and Defense Council. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko delivered a corresponding report. Areas that will require additional attention were identified.
A separate report was presented by Ukrainian special services. It concerned operations against collaborators in the temporarily occupied territories, including Sevastopol. According to Zelensky, this refers to individuals involved in Russian strikes against Ukraine and Ukrainians.
The president did not disclose details of such operations, their timing, or specific results. He stressed that those involved in aiding Russian attacks must be held accountable.
Thus, the current Staff meeting focused simultaneously on preparing the army for the autumn-winter period, increasing production of strike and defensive assets, analyzing long-range operations, and responding to new intelligence about Russia's plans.
