The National Bank prevented the dollar from rising sharply, and exporters increased their currency sales

On Monday, August 17, the quotes for non-cash dollars on the interbank currency market attempted to rise immediately after the opening of trading, but managed to climb only from 44.64 to 44.695 UAH on the "bid" position.

Intensive sales by the National Bank, joined by individual banks, did not allow the dollar to grow more significantly. In the first 15 minutes of Monday's trading, the volume of transactions in the Bloomberg trading system amounted to 111 million dollars. Exporters are increasing the supply of foreign currency earnings because they are in a hurry to pay income tax for the first half of the year by August 19.

The euro on the interbank currency market of Ukraine continues to rise on Monday following the growth of the euro/dollar cross rate on the international FOREX currency market and has already risen from 51.76 to 51.89 UAH on the "bid" position. On FOREX, the euro grew by more than 50 points in the morning – from 1.1560 to 1.1614 dollars.

Cash dollar prices have slightly decreased compared to the end of last week. If last Friday afternoon wholesale exchange points in Kyiv were selling dollars at 44.88-44.90 UAH, today they are already at 44.84-44.85 UAH. In Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi, Mykolaiv, and Dnipro, the dollar is being sold today at 44.85 UAH, in Odesa and Poltava – at 44.90 UAH. Ukrainian banks as of 12:30 are selling dollars at prices ranging from 44.83 UAH at Bank Lviv to 45.20 UAH at Zaporizhzhia-based Metabank. As for the euro, it is currently cheapest to buy it at Commercial Industrial Bank for 51.83 UAH.

Oil prices went up again amid a planned US attack on Iranian oil tankers. In particular, the price of the most popular Brent grade reached $89.37 per barrel this morning and, at the time of writing, is trading in the range of $89.00-89.25 per barrel.

On cryptocurrency exchanges, prices for major cryptocurrencies are attempting to rise on Monday morning after a decline at the end of last week. Bitcoin on the most popular cryptocurrency exchange rose to $63,717 per coin, and Ethereum – to $1,912.60 per coin. Currently, bitcoin is being sold at $63,380 - 63,400, and Ethereum – at $1,895-1,900 per coin.
