Judge from Odesa region sentenced to 7 years with confiscation of property

The High Anti-Corruption Court found the former acting chairman of the Kominternivskyi District Court of Odesa region guilty of receiving almost UAH 50,000 in unlawful benefit. He was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment.

In addition to the main punishment, the former judge was banned from holding positions in state and local government bodies for three years. The court also ordered confiscation of all his property.

According to the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, the case relates to events in September 2023. The investigation established that the then acting chairman of the district court requested $1,300 for making decisions in the interests of one of the parties in a civil case.

It concerned securing a claim and requesting documents. On September 29, 2023, NABU detectives with operational support from the SBU caught the judge receiving UAH 49,400. The next day, he was notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — receiving unlawful benefit by an official.

In December 2023, NABU and SAP completed the pre-trial investigation, and in March 2024 they sent the indictment to court. According to sources of "Ukrainska Pravda" in law enforcement agencies, the person involved in the case is Pavel Dobrov.

The verdict has not yet entered into legal force. It can be appealed within 30 days from the date of pronouncement to the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court.
