President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a proposal on appointing Yevhen Khmara as Minister of Defense of Ukraine.

This was reported on August 18 by the Holos MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak in a post.

Thus, Khmara's candidacy must now be considered by the parliament. On the morning of August 18, Zheleznyak reported that the corresponding proposal from the president had not yet been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, so the current decision became a new stage in the procedure for appointing the head of the Ministry of Defense.

Yevhen Khmara currently heads the Ministry of Defense in the status of acting minister. The Cabinet of Ministers made the corresponding decision in July to ensure continuity of the defense ministry's work after personnel changes in the government.

Before moving to the Ministry of Defense, Khmara served as acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and headed Special Operations Center “A” of the Security Service of Ukraine. On July 17, Zelensky dismissed him from the post of chief of the Special Operations Center “A”.
