For Wednesday, August 19, the National Bank set the following official exchange rates: - US dollar – 44.7756 UAH (+0.0818 UAH to the official rate for Tuesday, August 18); - euro – 51.8304 UAH (+0.0222 UAH to the official rate for Tuesday, August 18).

Rates were set at 16:00 on August 18 and reflect the following trends:

1. In the first half of the day on the interbank foreign exchange market, a balance of supply and demand was observed; trading took place in the range of 44.76-44.81 UAH without the participation of the National Bank. The average transaction price at 12:00 was 44.7837 UAH – almost 12 kopecks higher than on Monday. After 14:00, the National Bank appeared on the market. Its selling led to quotations dropping to 44.68 UAH on the bid position. The average transaction price by the end of the day slightly decreased, but was still significantly higher than on the previous day. Therefore, the National Bank raised the official dollar rate for Wednesday by 8.2 kopecks.

2. The euro on the international FOREX market traded today in a narrow range of 1.1566-1.1588 dollars. At the time of fixing, the euro was sold at 1.15756 – 16.2 points lower than last Friday (1.15918 dollars). However, since the NBU raised the official dollar rate for tomorrow, it also had to raise the official euro rate by 2.2 kopecks.

On the cash market today, price tags decreased somewhat compared to yesterday. If yesterday evening in Kyiv, the dollar was sold at 44.86 UAH, today it is already at 44.83 UAH. In Lviv, the dollar fell by 1 kopeck, in Dnipro and Odesa – by 5, and in Kharkiv – by 6 kopecks. Minor fluctuations, when one day the price tags rise and the next day they fall by a few kopecks, demonstrate stability and a decline in demand for cash currency.
