Russia massively shelled DTEK thermal power plant, causing damage

Russian troops massively attacked one of DTEK's thermal power plants on August 18. As a result of the shelling, the facility sustained significant damage.

This was reported by the company in its official Telegram channel.

DTEK did not disclose which thermal power plant was hit or where it is located. Detailed data on the extent of equipment damage and the timeline for full restoration of the facility have also not yet been released.

DTEK's thermal generation is regularly targeted by Russian attacks. Energy workers have to repair damaged equipment and bring power units back into operation after shelling. By mid-2025, the company had reported more than 200 strikes on its thermal power plants since the start of the full-scale invasion.

The new attack occurred amid Ukraine's preparations for the 2026/27 heating season. The government had previously warned of intensified Russian strikes on civilian and energy infrastructure and stated the need to increase the resilience of the energy system before winter.

DTEK continues to assess the impact of the strike. At the time of the company's message, there was no data on how the damage to the plant would affect the operation of the energy system as a whole.
