MP reports detention of ex-Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Mudra

Former Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Iryna Mudra was detained after investigative actions conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau on August 19.

This was reported by People's Deputy Oleksii Honcharenko. There was no official confirmation of the detention from NABU or SAPO at the time of publication.

According to Honcharenko, Mudra is undergoing investigative actions at NABU and should spend the night in a temporary detention facility. The MP did not specify the procedural grounds and circumstances of the detention.

Earlier on August 19, NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office announced a special operation "Forrest Gump". According to the investigation, a group of individuals organized the legalization of 150 million UAH in cash through accounts of controlled companies to post bail for one of the members of a criminal organization in the "Midas" case. Among the suspects, the anti-corruption bodies named by positions the Deputy Head of the Office of the President, a former People's Deputy, the Chairman of the Board of a state bank and the Chairman of its Supervisory Board.

The participants of the alleged scheme were notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — legalization of property obtained through criminal means. According to the investigation, state-owned Sense Bank was used for the operations, control over which the organizers of the scheme allegedly obtained in early June. The bank itself had previously confirmed investigative actions at its head office and stated cooperation with law enforcement.

Mudra's name was not officially mentioned in NABU's initial statement. Ukrainian media, citing their own sources, identified her as one of the persons under investigation. Therefore, her possible role in the scheme described by NABU remains a version of the investigation and must be established in accordance with the law.

On the same day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Iryna Mudra from the post of Deputy Head of the Office of the President. Decree No. 734/2026 dated August 19 does not provide an explanation for the dismissal.

Mudra had held the post of Deputy Head of the Presidential Office since March 2024. At the Office of the President, she handled legal issues, including the creation of a special international tribunal for the crime of aggression by Russia against Ukraine, a compensation mechanism for damages, and issues of confiscation of frozen Russian assets.
