Zelensky demanded to make mobilization in Ukraine "more humane"
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky instructed the Ministry of Defense to prepare concrete proposals for changing the mobilization process. According to him, the current system must be made "more humane".
The head of state announced this on August 20. Zelensky emphasized that he expects practical solutions from the defense department that will change the approaches to mobilization.
"The Ministry of Defense should provide real proposals regarding changes in the conduct of mobilization. It should become more humane", — said the president.
Zelensky has not yet named specific changes that may be made to mobilization rules. Also, the president did not specify the timeframe in which the Ministry of Defense should prepare and submit its proposals.
The statement came amid preparations for reform of the mobilization system and territorial recruitment centers. On August 19, Deputy Minister of Defense Liubov Halan said that relevant changes are being prepared and should take place in a "foreseeable perspective".
According to her, the final decision depends not only on the Ministry of Defense, but also on the military-political leadership of the country, so specific timelines for the reform have not yet been determined.
Thus, at the moment it is about an instruction to develop changes, not about already approved new mobilization rules. Which exact procedures and approaches will be revised will become known after the presentation of proposals by the Ministry of Defense.
