President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the preparation of personnel decisions and new approaches in the work of the Ukrainian diplomatic team. The changes should affect several important foreign policy areas, including relations with the United States.

The head of state said this on August 20 in an evening address. According to Zelensky, decisions are being prepared for the diplomatic team that should strengthen Ukraine's work with key partners.

“We are preparing personnel decisions and new approaches for our diplomatic team of Ukraine. This will affect several important areas, including the United States of America,” — the president said.

Zelensky did not name specific names, positions, or timing of personnel changes yet.

Ukraine remains without an appointed ambassador to the US

The president's statement came several weeks after personnel changes in the Ukrainian embassy in Washington. On August 3, Zelensky dismissed Olha Stefanyshyna from the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States.

Stefanyshyna stated that she made the decision to leave the diplomatic service of her own accord due to personal circumstances. She had held the post of ambassador for almost a year — since August 2025.

As of August 20, the president had not publicly announced the appointment of her successor. Thus, one of Ukraine's key diplomatic directions remains awaiting a new head.

Relations with Washington are of particular importance against the background of negotiations on arms supplies, strengthening Ukrainian air defense, purchasing American missiles for Patriot systems, and further military support for Ukraine.

In the same address, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is ready to buy necessary American weapons and expects political decisions from partners, primarily the US, on additional deliveries of missiles for air defense.
