Stefanchuk commented on the possibility of holding elections after Fedorov's appeal
The Verkhovna Rada is working on a law regarding the possibility of elections in Ukraine during wartime. However, actually holding them at the current time is absolutely impossible. This is stated in a statement by Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk on the sidelines of the Kyiv Security Forum marking the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence, according to РБК-Україна .
The journalist asked a question about active discussions of elections and a bill on their preparation in the Rada after a video address by former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
"Look, regarding preparation for elections in the Ukrainian parliament, a working group has existed for a year now. It is working on a special law for this type of elections", - says Stefanchuk.
As for the actual holding of elections, the parliamentarian replied: it is clear to everyone, especially after recent nights.
He noted that holding elections in Ukraine during the legal regime of martial law is:
- absolutely impossible,
- inexpedient,
- irresponsible.
Elections must be:
- A - democratic,
- B - safe for every citizen who participates in elections and runs for state bodies.

Let us remind you that previously RBC-Ukraine wrote that Fedorov called for holding elections in Ukraine. In his opinion, it is necessary to find a mechanism to hold them in wartime conditions. All Ukrainians must have the opportunity to vote.
It was also reported that the proposal to hold elections during the war sparked a new political discussion, and the President's Office called such plans unrealistic amid Russian attacks.
In addition, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he is ready to support holding elections during martial law. The conditions are necessary security and adoption of relevant legislative changes.
