NBU issued a silver coin for the 35th anniversary of Independence

The National Bank of Ukraine on August 24 put into circulation a commemorative coin "For the 35th Anniversary of Ukraine's Independence" with a face value of 20 hryvnias. Its presentation took place in the Verkhovna Rada, where 35 years ago the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine was adopted.

The coin continues the "Ukrainian State" series and is made of 925 sterling silver. The pure precious metal weight is 62.2 grams, diameter — 50 mm. The coin is decorated with patination and local gilding.

The mintage will be up to 5 thousand pieces. Quality of minting — "special uncirculated".

The main motif of the new coin is a shield. As explained by NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyy, this symbol should reflect 35 years of Ukrainian independence — the shield withstood blows but was not broken.

The obverse depicts the hand of a serviceman holding a shield, as well as a child's drawing that acts as a talisman of the defender. It shows a child, a heart, the sun, and a home. Around the edge is the inscription "35 YEARS OF FIGHTING FOR THE FUTURE".

Also on this side of the coin are the inscription "Ukraine", the small State Emblem, the year of minting — 2026, the face value 20 hryvnias, and the graphic symbol of the national currency.

The reverse depicts the outer side of a damaged shield. According to the author's idea, it symbolizes the struggle of the Ukrainian people for freedom and independence.

The designer of the coin was artist Andriy Sahach.

The first specimen of the commemorative coin Pyshnyy handed over to Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk for keeping in the parliament museum.

The coin can be purchased through the NBU numismatic products online store and distributor banks. Information about the start of sales will be published separately by the regulator and banks on their official resources.
