Shmyhal tells how Ukraine is preparing its energy system for winter

Ukraine is preparing its energy system for the new winter under constant attacks by the Russian Federation, strengthening the protection of facilities and stockpiling the necessary equipment for the regions. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal during the sixth summit of first ladies and gentlemen, according to РБК-Україна .

According to Shmyhal, the coming winter will not be easy, since Russia continues its war of attrition, and Ukrainian energy remains one of the main targets of Russian attacks.

He noted that not only the supply of electricity, but also heat, water, logistics, the economy, and the life of the country depend on the operation of the energy system.

“Ukrainian energy and the Ukrainian energy system are now going through a historic stage, examples of which have not existed before. During a large-scale war, during daily ballistic strikes, our system is changing,” the minister noted.

He explained that the country is in fact creating a new architecture for its operation.

How energy facilities are protected

Ukrainian power engineers and engineers have developed new shelters for facilities of various levels and capacities.

Engineering and technical protection has also been created, which should help maintain the operability of energy facilities even after ballistic missile strikes.

According to Shmyhal, this allows the time needed to repair damage to be reduced. If previously repairs could last for months, now some facilities can be restored in about a week.

The minister stressed that the constant support of international partners helps to implement these solutions.

“Almost 6,000 tons of energy equipment have been sent this year from distribution hubs to our regions, to our communities. This includes generators, transformers, cogeneration units, and block-modular boiler houses,” Shmyhal said.

He thanked partners for the help and support, which “is converted into quite concrete things.”

Earlier, Shmyhal stated that electricity tariffs for household consumers will remain unchanged until next year.

At the same time, prices for businesses are formed according to market conditions, since Ukraine is part of the European electricity market and the ENTSO-E system.
