YouTube blocked three channels of "Masha and the Bear" in Ukraine

YouTube has blocked three channels of the Russian animated series "Masha and the Bear" for users in Ukraine — the Russian-language, Ukrainian-language and English-language ones.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

All three channels were included in the sanctions decision of the National Security and Defense Council, enacted by decree of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"Blocking these channels limits access of this content to Ukrainian children and deprives Russia of another platform for earnings and hybrid influence," — stated the Center for Countering Disinformation.

On August 20, Zelensky imposed sanctions against individuals and organizations involved in the creation and distribution of the animated series. The restrictions affected five Russian citizens and four organizations, including the Animaccord studio, which created "Masha and the Bear."

The sanctions also targeted the founder and CEO of the studio, screenwriter, director, producer, co-author of the project, and copyright holder of the animated series.

The Office of the President stated that "Masha and the Bear" spreads pro-Russian narratives disguised as children's content and poses a threat to Ukraine's national security.

Previously, the animated series maintained a significant audience in Ukraine. In August 2025, the "Masha and the Bear" channel topped the ranking of the most popular children's YouTube channels among Ukrainian users.
