Dollar is getting cheaper, but demand for cash currency is coming back: what to expect on August 26
On Wednesday, August 26, the National Bank set the following official rates: - US dollar – 44.6716 UAH (-0.0348 UAH to the official rate on Tuesday, August 25); - euro – 52.0898 UAH (-0.0696 UAH to the official rate on Tuesday, August 25).
The rates were set at 16:00 on August 25 and reflect the following trends:
1. In the first half of the day on the interbank foreign exchange market, a balance of supply and demand was observed. Trading took place in the range of 44.67-44.70 UAH, the National Bank did not particularly show itself. The average transaction price at 12:00 was 44.6903 UAH – almost 5 kopecks lower than on Tuesday. After 14:00, the National Bank became more active. Its sales led to quotes dropping to 44.575 UAH on the "bid" position. Thanks to the actions of the NBU, the average transaction price by the end of the day fell even more, so the National Bank lowered the official dollar rate for Wednesday by 3.5 kopecks.
2. The euro on the international FOREX market today attempted to continue the correction and managed to drop to 1.1651 dollars, but then the dollar began to be sold again, and the euro went up. At the time of fixing, the euro was sold at 1.16606 dollars – 6.5 points lower than on Monday (1.16671 dollars). Therefore, the NBU lowered the official euro rate for tomorrow by almost 7 kopecks.
Price tags on the cash market continued to go down today against the backdrop of falling demand for cash currency. In Lviv, the dollar fell by 1 kopeck, in Kiev – by 3 kopecks (from 44.80 to 44.77 UAH), in Dnipro and Odessa – by 5, and in Kharkiv – by 6 kopecks. However, as cash currency market operators told the "Kurs Ukrainy" portal, significant demand has already appeared at current prices. Therefore, tomorrow price tags may well start to rise again.
