Stubb outlined a "red line" for peace talks on Ukraine

President of Finland Alexander Stubb named Ukraine's membership in the EU and NATO as his "red line" on ending the Russian-Ukrainian war, according to Європейська правда.

According to the President of Finland, Europe's "red lines" are that European security cannot be defined without regard to Europe.

"This is an absolute starting point. At the same time, Ukrainians should realize that we are on the same team – Ukraine and Europe, Ukraine and Finland", – he explained.

That is why Stubb believes that "ultimately it must come to Ukraine's membership in the EU and NATO".

"I say this because I am convinced that Ukraine's value foundation is in Europe. Russia has tried to make Ukraine Russian, but you have shown that you want to be Europeans. And not only for that reason. Your accession is in our interests. You have the largest Armed Forces in Europe, you have experience in conducting modern warfare", – he said.

The Finnish president emphasized that if initially it was about "Europe must help Ukraine", now Europe must realize that "Ukraine is helping us".

"Both now and in the long term, when it comes to security", – he stressed.

When asked a clarifying question whether this means that Ukraine's membership in the EU – and in NATO – is also a "red line" in future peace talks, Stubb answered that for him – "absolutely".

It is worth noting that the head of the European Council, Antonio Costa, stated that Ukraine has helped build a new, truly geopolitical European Union that assumes responsibility for its own defense, and it is ready to accept Ukraine.

He also stated that Kyiv shows "astounding" progress in reforms even under conditions of full-scale war.
