The European Commission responded to Armenia's intention to prepare an application for EU membership

The European Commission positively assessed the statement by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that the process of submitting the country's application for EU membership should be expected to begin in the near future. This was stated by European Commission spokesperson Markus Lammert during a briefing in Brussels, according to Європейська правда.

As the EC representative noted, Armenia is now "closer to the EU than ever before".

In this context, he pointed to the successful EU–Armenia summit in Geneva, as well as cooperation within the framework of the Stability and Growth Plan, the European Peace Facility and partnership missions.

Lammert also recalled that Armenia decided to take the first step towards the EU by adopting on its side the so-called "EU accession law".

"We are already working on bringing Armenia closer to the EU through, for example, the development of transport links, trade and many other areas of our cooperation with this country. And this is yet another manifestation of the EU's attractiveness to citizens, so we follow this with interest, and you also know how President von der Leyen very, very actively supports this clearly expressed support from Armenian citizens towards the EU", – he added.
