US Secret Service responded to threat to Trump's son from Iran
The US Secret Service said it is aware of a video from Iranian state media containing a threat against President Donald Trump's youngest son, Barron Trump. The video claims that a $10 million reward has been allegedly offered for his killing.
Politico reported this on August 25. Secret Service spokesman Nate Herring confirmed that the agency is reviewing the publication.
"The US Secret Service is aware of this video and investigates anything that could be perceived as a threat to individuals under our protection," Herring said.
He declined to reveal details of possible security measures, citing the need to protect operational information.
Iranian television aired video about Barron Trump
The video in question is a nearly three-minute segment distributed by media outlets linked to Iranian authorities and shown by state television. The video was titled "Where to kill Barron Trump?".
It displays alleged locations associated with the 20-year-old son of the American president, as well as stylized images depicting surveillance of his movements.
The video's authors claim to know some of Barron Trump's routes and details of his security detail. The video also contains a statement about an alleged reward of $10 million for an attack on him.
There is no independent confirmation of the existence of such a reward or the reliability of the information presented in the video.
According to Euronews, the material was distributed by media linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and then shown by the third channel of Iranian state television.
Iranian media have previously threatened the family of the US president
US media note that outlets linked to Iranian authorities have repeatedly spread threats directly against Donald Trump and members of his family.
In July, a similar video appeared dedicated to First Lady Melania Trump. It also displayed alleged locations of her presence and discussed possible vulnerabilities in the security system.
However, the current case, according to CNN, became the first known instance where such materials publicly and directly singled out Barron Trump.
The threats come amid the ongoing standoff between the US and Iran. Their intensity increased after the start of the US-Israeli military operation against Iran in February and the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
The Secret Service did not specify whether it considers the published video evidence of a specific impending attack. The agency only emphasized that any potential threats to individuals under its protection are investigated.
