For Thursday, August 27, the National Bank has set the following official exchange rates: - US dollar – 44.5717 UAH (-0.0999 UAH to the official rate for Wednesday, August 26); - euro – 52.0080 UAH (-0.0818 UAH to the official rate for Wednesday, August 26).

Rates are fixed at 16:00 on August 26 and reflect the following trends:

1. At the start of trading on Wednesday on the interbank currency market, a strong supply-demand imbalance arose: the number of sellers exceeded the number of buyers, so quotes moved down even without the National Bank's participation. The average deal price as of 12:00 was 44.5960 UAH – 9.5 kopecks lower than on Tuesday. Around 12:00 the National Bank joined the sellers. Its selling led quotes down to 44.535 UAH on the 'bid'. Thanks to NBU's actions, the average deal price dropped even lower by the end of the day, so the National Bank lowered the official dollar rate for Thursday by 10 kopecks.

2. The euro on the international FOREX market went down today after strong US data was published and by the time of writing had dropped to 1.1642 dollars. At the moment of fixation, the euro was being sold at 1.16684 dollars – 7.8 points higher than on Tuesday (1.16606 dollars). But given the lowering of the official dollar rate, the NBU decreased the official euro rate for tomorrow by 8.2 kopecks.

Price tags on the cash market today continued to go down. In Kharkiv and Dnipro the dollar fell by 3 kopecks, in Kyiv and Lviv – by 4 kopecks, and in Odesa – by 5 kopecks. The end-of-month factor and the dollar's fall on the interbank also affect the cash market.
