Zelensky arrives in Chisinau for Moldova's Independence Day

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Chisinau, where he will take part in events marking the 35th anniversary of Moldova's independence.

His press secretary Serhiy Nikiforov told journalists about the Ukrainian president's arrival on August 27.

Zelensky came to Moldova at the invitation of President Maia Sandu. Romanian President Nicolae Dan was also in Chisinau that day.

According to the official program, Maia Sandu is to meet Zelensky at the building of the Moldovan president's administration. Negotiations with the participation of the leaders of Moldova, Ukraine and Romania are planned afterwards.

At 19:25 local time, Sandu, Zelensky and Dan plan to hold a joint press conference. The Ukrainian and Romanian presidents are also invited to take part in festive events in the center of Chisinau.

Moldova marks 35 years since the proclamation of independence on August 27. In the morning, the country's leadership laid flowers at the Eternity memorial and the monument to Stephen the Great, and in the afternoon a military parade and a festive concert are planned in Chisinau.

A few days before the visit, on August 24, Maia Sandu was in Kyiv for events marking the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's independence.
