Residents of Kherson urged to leave the city if possible before winter

Residents of Kherson, especially families with children and the elderly, were urged to move to safer regions if possible. After new Russian strikes on the thermal power plant and other critical infrastructure, the city will not be able to count on their normal operation this winter.

This was stated on August 27 by the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin.

According to him, the situation with the city's critical infrastructure has significantly worsened after another Russian attack. On the night of Thursday, Russian troops again struck the Kherson Thermal Power Plant with guided aerial bombs.

“So let's be frank: we can no longer count on the thermal power plant or other critical infrastructure facilities operating normally this winter,” — Prokudin said.

He stressed that the security situation in Kherson remains extremely difficult, and Russian troops are intensifying attacks on the region's critical infrastructure every day.

All generating equipment of the thermal power plant destroyed

Earlier, Naftogaz reported that at night Russia carried out four strikes with guided aerial bombs on the territory of the Kherson Thermal Power Plant.

As a result, the plant suffered critical destruction. All remaining heat-generating and electricity-generating equipment at the facility was completely destroyed or disabled.

The Kherson Thermal Power Plant provides heat to a significant part of the city's residential buildings. Naftogaz noted that the facility has repeatedly been subjected to Russian attacks, but the new strike destroyed the equipment that still remained operational.

Prokudin warned that this winter, the absence of electricity or heat in Kherson could last not just a few hours or days, but much longer. Therefore, the authorities recommend that residents assess the possibility of temporary relocation in advance.

This appeal primarily concerns families with children, the elderly, and citizens who find it especially difficult to be without heating and electricity for a long time.

The Kherson Regional Military Administration reminded that evacuation from the city is ongoing. Residents who decide to leave are offered to contact the regional contact center for assistance with moving to safer regions.
