Foreign Ministry: Search operations continue in Nepal, 56 Ukrainians are missing
После масштабного наводнения на границе Непала и Тибета, произошедшего 26 августа, была утрачена связь с 56 украинцами, при этом в списках раненых или погибших их нет. This is according to a Foreign Ministry comment to journalists, according to Українська правда.
“As of 10:30 PM Kyiv time, search operations are ongoing. The Ukrainian Embassy in India's emergency response team is on site in the disaster area."
Ukrainian consuls maintain direct contact with local authorities coordinating rescue operations to find and evacuate the Ukrainians with whom contact has been lost.
The number has changed negligibly since today—one more female citizen has been added as part of a foreign tourist group."
Details: In total, 56 Ukrainians are unaccounted for. As of now, the Foreign Ministry states that, according to available verified information, no Ukrainians are listed among the wounded or dead from the natural disaster.
The Nepalese army and police continue search-and-rescue efforts, with about fifteen helicopters involved.
Ukraine also coordinates the search and evacuation of its citizens with other countries.

- On the morning of August 26, floods hit the Rasuwa region north of Kathmandu, Nepal's capital. Water and mud flows swept away homes, roads, and bridges, and damaged power infrastructure.
- According to preliminary conclusions, the disaster was caused by an ice and rock collapse from a glacier. The debris flow blocked the Lhendhe Khola River, sending a powerful wave of water, mud, and rubble downstream. In some areas, transport links have been disrupted, hampering search and rescue operations.
- Vehicular traffic, communications, and power supply have been disrupted in the region.
- On the morning of August 27, it was reported that 55 Ukrainians were considered missing after the massive flooding in Nepal and Tibet, and local authorities warned of potential repeat floods and landslides.
