ATB stores introduce purchase limits on popular products
Since August 28, the ATB retail chain has introduced restrictions on the sale of a number of daily demand products. The limits apply in particular to eggs, sugar, cereals, pasta, vegetable oil and canned goods.
This was reported by "Telegraf" citing an employee of the retail chain. Corresponding announcements for customers have already appeared in some stores.
For chicken eggs, a limit has been set at no more than 6 kg or units of the corresponding product per receipt. The specific size of restrictions for other categories is not provided in the publication.
Which products are subject to restrictions
According to information from an ATB employee, the limits apply to the following groups of goods:
- chicken eggs;
- sugar;
- cereals;
- pasta;
- vegetable oil and vinegar;
- canned fish and seafood;
- canned meat;
- instant foods and food concentrates;
- cereals (breakfast cereals);
- salt;
- starch;
- baking soda;
- baking goods.
The restrictions apply not only to purchases made directly in supermarkets, but also to orders placed through the chain's online services.
In addition, according to the publication, a buyer may be refused to sell goods in excess of the established quantity if they attempt to circumvent the limit by using several consecutive receipts.
The reasons for the restrictions have not yet been officially announced
At the time of publication, ATB had not publicly explained the reasons for introducing the new limits or said how long they would remain in effect. Therefore, there are as yet no grounds to connect the restrictions directly with a shortage of individual goods.
Meanwhile, the new rules appeared amid serious logistical problems in Ukrainian food retail following Russian attacks. Warehouse and distribution facilities of several major trading companies were recently damaged or destroyed.
On August 28, the authorities also reported large-scale losses of logistics infrastructure in grocery chains. This increases the load on existing warehouses and supply routes, but ATB itself has not yet stated that this was the reason for the current restrictions.
