From September 1, teachers' salaries to increase by 20% and salary calculations to change
Starting September 1, 2026, the official salaries of pedagogical and scientific-pedagogical workers in Ukraine will increase by 20%. At the same time, the government is changing the very principle of salary calculation in education — instead of the Unified Tariff Schedule, a new system is being introduced.
This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Koretskyi.
According to him, the 20% increase will be the second stage of raising teachers' pay this year. From January 1, official salaries were already increased by 30%.
Moreover, from September, the official salary itself is increasing, from which most of the supplements and allowances provided for education workers are calculated.
The Unified Tariff Schedule is being abandoned
Along with the salary increase, the government is changing the system of teachers' compensation. Starting September 1, the current Unified Tariff Schedule will be abandoned for them.
In the new model, the salary amount will depend on the position held and the base value. As Koretskyi explained, the average wage in the Ukrainian economy is currently used as this value.
"At the same time, we are changing the very system of remuneration for education workers. From September 1, we are abandoning the Unified Tariff Schedule and moving to a system where the salary will depend on the position and the base value, which is now the average wage in the Ukrainian economy," the Prime Minister stated.
The new system will apply to schools, higher education institutions, inclusive resource centers, and state educational institutions.
For preschool and out-of-school education, vocational and professional pre-higher education institutions, local self-government bodies are recommended to also ensure a corresponding salary increase from September 1.
Some supplements will remain
Certain additional payments for teachers will continue to apply even after changing the salary calculation system.
In particular, according to Koretskyi, the supplement of 2600 UAH for teachers who work on-site in frontline territories is retained.
In addition, college instructors who train specialists for the defense-industrial complex, energy, machine building and metalworking will receive an additional payment equal to 10% of the official salary.
Back in spring, the government confirmed the second stage of raising salaries for pedagogical and scientific-pedagogical workers from September 1. At that time, the Ministry of Education and Science explained that the changes should increase the share of guaranteed payments and reduce the dependence of teachers' actual salaries on the size of individual allowances.
