Ukrainians have not been applying for microloans more often, but the amounts of such loans have grown noticeably. In the first half of 2026, citizens concluded 4.2 million loan agreements with microfinance organizations totaling UAH 37.5 billion, and the accumulated debt to MFIs increased by 17% since the beginning of the year.

This is evidenced by data from the National Bank of Ukraine, analyzed by Opendatabot.

In January-June, Ukrainians concluded 4,196,309 agreements with microfinance organizations. On average, this is about 700 thousand microloans each month. The number of loans in annual terms did not change significantly.

Instead, the size of the loan increased noticeably. In the second quarter, the average microloan reached UAH 9,170. This is almost one and a half times more than in the same period last year, when it was about UAH 6,290.

Debt to MFIs exceeded UAH 32 billion

As of July 1, 2026, the total debt of Ukrainians to microfinance organizations reached UAH 32.32 billion.

In just the first six months of the year, the debt increased by UAH 4.7 billion, or 17%. At the end of 2025, it was about UAH 27.65 billion.

The growth has been ongoing for several years. After the start of the full-scale war, microloan debt initially decreased - to about UAH 8 billion at the end of 2022. However, from 2023 the trend changed, and debts to MFIs began to accumulate again.

For comparison, throughout 2025, Ukrainians took out 8.6 million microloans for UAH 56.76 billion. At that time, the average loan amount was about UAH 6.6 thousand. Thus, the current market growth is largely driven not by an increase in the number of contracts, but by a rise in the average loan amount.

How much the largest MFIs earn

Against the backdrop of increasing lending volumes, the financial indicators of the largest market participants are also growing. The ten largest MFIs in the first half of 2026 received a combined revenue of UAH 12.78 billion and profit of UAH 1.16 billion.

In terms of revenue, the first place was taken by "Ukr Credit Finance", operating under the CreditKasa brand - UAH 1.99 billion. Next are "Ye Hroshi" with UAH 1.85 billion and "Spozhyvchyi Tsentr", known under the "ShvydkoHroshi" brand, with UAH 1.52 billion.

In terms of net profit, the leader was "Spozhyvchyi Tsentr" - UAH 361.3 million. This is almost a third of the total profit of the ten largest microfinance companies.

Thus, the main trend of the first half of 2026 was the rise in the average microloan cost: Ukrainians take out about the same number of loans, but borrow increasingly larger amounts, which is accompanied by further growth in total debt.
