In Poland, a woman faces 5 years in prison for assaulting a 13-year-old Ukrainian girl

In the Polish city of Siedlce, a 41-year-old local resident has been charged with insult on the grounds of nationality and use of violence against a 13-year-old Ukrainian citizen. According to prosecutors, the woman attacked the girl after hearing her speak Ukrainian. The suspect faces up to five years in prison.

The incident occurred on August 25. Police in Siedlce received a report of an assault on a minor Ukrainian girl. According to law enforcement, a woman, unknown at the time, publicly insulted the girl, using expressions related to her nationality, among other things, and then used physical force against her.

When a police patrol arrived at the scene, the attacker was no longer there. Officers began to establish her identity, in particular by reviewing city surveillance camera footage. As a result, the suspect was found and detained. She turned out to be a 41-year-old resident of Siedlce.

Attacked after hearing Ukrainian speech

Katarzyna Wąsak, head of the district prosecutor's office in Siedlce, said that shortly before the attack, the suspect had consumed alcohol. When the woman heard a 13-year-old girl speaking Ukrainian, she approached her, began insulting her and pulling her hair.

However, the case was not limited to the assault on the child. According to the investigation, the woman also insulted the mother of the 13-year-old Ukrainian girl on the grounds of nationality.

During questioning at the prosecutor's office, the suspect could not explain the reasons for her behavior. Investigators charged her with insulting a minor on the grounds of national origin, as well as using violence against the girl because of her nationality. A separate count concerns insulting the child's mother.

Woman banned from approaching Ukrainian family

The court did not place the suspect in detention. The prosecutor imposed police supervision and prohibited her from contacting the victims.

In addition, the 41-year-old woman is prohibited from coming within 50 meters of the girl and her mother. Polish law enforcement classified the incident as a hooliganistic act. Given the charges, the woman faces up to five years in prison.

The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the district prosecutor's office in Siedlce. At this stage, these are charges brought by the investigation; the final assessment of the suspect's actions will be made by the court.
