In Ukraine, for August 1-30, 2026, there were 4,794 first registrations of new passenger cars. This is 7.6% less than the same 30 days of July, and 30.9% less compared to August 1-30 of last year. Against the overall decline, Toyota, on the contrary, increased registrations and took more than a fifth of the market.

This is evidenced by data from the Institute of Auto Market Research.

For July 1-30, 5,188 new passenger cars were registered in Ukraine, so the market shrank by 394 cars in comparison. In the corresponding period of August 2025, 6,936 cars were registered - 2,142 more than this year.

At the same time, the Institute points out that the August statistics so far cover only the first 30 days of the month. Therefore, it should not be directly compared with indicators of full calendar months. To calculate monthly and annual dynamics, the analysts used the same 30-day periods.

Electric vehicles accounted for two-thirds of the annual decline

Gasoline models kept the largest share among new cars in August - 1,765 registrations, or 36.8% of the market. Hybrids almost equaled them - 1,627 cars, or 33.9%.

Diesel cars registered 881, their share was 18.4%. Electric vehicles accounted for 504 registrations, or 10.5%, and cars with LPG equipment - only 17.

Compared to July, electric vehicles became the only major segment to grow: their registrations increased by 27.9%. At the same time, in annual terms, electric cars showed the largest decline.

For August 1-30, 2025, 1,944 new electric vehicles were registered, while this year - only 504. Thus, the drop was 74.1%, or 1,440 cars. Electric vehicles accounted for 67.2% of the total annual market contraction.

Analysts associate the high level of last year's base with, in particular, the expiration of the VAT exemption for electric vehicles. From January 1, 2026, the tax applies again, which is why part of the demand was realized back in 2025.

Toyota occupied over 22% of the market

Against the general decline, Toyota showed the best dynamics among the largest brands. During the 30 days of August, 1,068 new cars of the brand were registered - 21.5% more than in July and 10.8% more than a year earlier.

Toyota's market share rose to 22.3%. For comparison, in July it was 16.9%, and a year ago - 13.9%.

All other brands together lost 583 registrations, or 13.5%, over the month. Toyota's growth thus partially offset the decline of the rest of the market.

Second place among brands was taken by Skoda with 429 registrations and a share of 8.9%. Third was Renault - 376 cars and 7.8% of the market. Next were Volkswagen - 269 cars, BYD - 266, and Hyundai - 258.

The top ten leaders also included Mazda, BMW, Suzuki, and Zeekr. The top-10 brands accounted for 69% of all first registrations of new passenger cars.

Toyota RAV4 remained the most popular model

The leader among individual models was Toyota RAV4 - 445 such cars were registered in 30 days, which corresponds to 9.3% of the entire market of new passenger cars.

Second place was occupied by Renault Duster with 267 registrations, third by Hyundai Tucson with 200 cars. The top five also included Skoda Kodiaq with 180 registrations and Toyota Camry with 174.

In total, 4,654 cars, or 97.1% of August registrations, were imported to Ukraine as new. Another 140 cars, or 2.9%, were registered as manufactured or converted in Ukraine.
