Zelensky demands SBU and GUR explain shooting in Kyiv
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has demanded to establish all circumstances of the shooting in Kyiv involving representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine and servicemen whom the media associate with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense. The head of state also demanded that the heads of law enforcement agencies provide the public with full information about the incident.
Zelensky returned to the situation on the evening of September 2 in his address. Earlier in the day, the Office of the President reported that the head of state personally was investigating the circumstances of the incident and demanded that the heads of the relevant agencies publicly explain what happened.
The shooting took place in the Dnipro district of Kyiv in the area of Yuriya Shumskogo Street. In the morning, the police blocked traffic, and representatives of the State Bureau of Investigation, the Prosecutor General's Office, and the head of the Special Operations Center "A" of the SBU arrived at the scene.
SBU claims its employees were attacked
According to the Security Service, its employees were conducting urgent investigative actions as part of the investigation of a terrorist act organized by the Russian FSB.
The SBU claims that during the search, a group of individuals blocked the movement of vehicles and committed an armed attack on the investigative task force. To stop the resistance, the special unit "Alpha" was called in, whose employees used weapons.
As a result, among the people who resisted, there were wounded. The SBU stated that the detainees are servicemen of one of the units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Weapons and documents were seized from them.
The Prosecutor General's Office has opened criminal proceedings for threats and encroachment on the lives of law enforcement officers. The investigation is establishing the circumstances of the incident, the actions of each of the participants, and the final legal qualification.
Three wounded GUR servicemen reported
According to "Ukrainska Pravda", representatives of the SBU and GUR were involved in the conflict. Lawyer Taras Borovskyi, representing Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander for combat work of the "Russian Volunteer Corps", stated that three military intelligence servicemen were injured.
According to him, two of them are in serious condition in hospital. In one of the wounded, an artery in the leg was damaged by a bullet, and the third received a lighter wound.
The incident is linked to the situation around Kaplunov. On September 1, in RDK it was stated that he had been taken by unknown persons near his home. Lawyers applied to the State Bureau of Investigation in this regard.
Simultaneously, in the morning of September 2, the SBU reported that together with the GUR it had prevented a terrorist attack allegedly prepared by the Russian FSB against one of the leaders of the Russian opposition political movement who came to Ukraine for Independence Day.
Head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Budanov stated that the circumstances of the shooting should be investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation. According to him, the investigation should be thorough and impartial.
The final version of events and legal assessment of the actions of the conflict participants have not yet been established.
