Klitschko announced the need to increase water tariffs in Kyiv
Tariffs for centralized water supply and sewerage in Kyiv need to be raised due to the critical financial condition of the industry, stated the capital's mayor Vitali Klitschko. According to him, current prices do not correspond to the costs of enterprises for electricity, fuel and reagents.
Klitschko noted that the revision of tariffs for water supply and sewerage is also taking place in other regions of Ukraine. According to him, the NEURC recommended raising them back in 2024, but the corresponding decisions were not implemented at that time.
As a result, the mayor of Kyiv claims, the water supply industry is now actually "on the verge of shutdown".
"We understand that it is difficult for people. But the water tariff – at a time when electricity tariffs, fuel prices, and reagent prices have risen – cannot remain at the same level", – said Klitschko.
However, the mayor did not name the specific size of a possible new tariff and the date of its introduction.
The current tariff covers only part of the costs
Currently, the tariff for centralized water supply and sewerage for the population of Kyiv is UAH 30.384 per cubic meter with VAT. Of this amount, UAH 16.164 is for water supply and UAH 14.22 is for sewerage.
According to Kyivvodokanal, this tariff has not changed since 2022 and now covers only about 27% of the cost of production of services for the population.
The company explains the need to revise the cost of services by the increase in costs for electricity and its distribution, natural gas, fuel and lubricants, and network repairs. Additional costs are associated with the depreciation of infrastructure, rising prices for materials and spare parts, and the need to protect critical infrastructure facilities during Russian missile and drone attacks.
Kyivvodokanal also reported that it has already provided the Kyiv City State Administration with calculations of new tariffs for centralized water supply and sewerage for 2027. They are prepared for all categories of consumers.
Thus, Klitschko's statement for now means the need to revise the current tariffs, but the final parameters of the increase for the population have not yet been announced.
