The capital will introduce a daily one-minute stop of transport

In Kyiv, during the nationwide moment of silence, transport will be stopped for 60 seconds daily at 9:00. At the first stage, the new order will be introduced in the center of the capital, and then gradually extended to other streets. The city authorities will announce the start date of the new rules separately.

The corresponding decision was supported by the Kyiv City Council on September 3, reports the official portal of the capital.

Where technically possible, traffic lights will be switched to the "all red" mode simultaneously at 9:00. Movement will resume after the minute of silence is over.

Through the city notification system, during the stop, a voice message and a countdown to the end of the 60 seconds will be broadcast.

On which streets will traffic be stopped first

The new mechanism will be introduced gradually. At the first stage, it will work in the central part of Kyiv, where the necessary infrastructure is already technically ready.

The list includes:

• European Square;
• Khreshchatyk Street;
• Baseina Street;
• Bessarabsky Proezd;
• Velyka Vasylkivska Street;
• Ukrainian Heroes Square;
• Yevhena Chykalenko Street;
• Taras Shevchenko Boulevard;
• Volodymyrska Street;
• Proizdna Street.

As the traffic light infrastructure is technically prepared, the one-minute stop mode will be extended to other streets and districts of the capital.

Transport will not be stopped during an air raid alert

A separate exception is provided for the case of a threat of Russian attacks. If at 9:00 in Kyiv there is an air raid alert or the alarm is announced exactly at that moment, transport will not be stopped for a minute.

In this way, the city authorities want to avoid a situation where traffic restrictions could prevent people from reaching shelters or affect the work of emergency services.

Both municipal and private carriers of ground public transport must be separately notified of the new order.

Why Kyiv is introducing the new rule

The draft decision was prepared on the instructions of Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko after an appeal from deputies of the Kyiv City Council who are currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Kostiantyn Usov explained that the goal of the innovation is to make the nationwide moment of silence in the capital a noticeable part of everyday life, rather than a formal event.

Before making the decision, transport specialists considered various options for stopping traffic and conducted modeling. The mayor's office claims that the chosen mechanism should allow the moment of silence to be held in an organized and safe manner, without creating unnecessary problems for the transport system.

The nationwide moment of silence is held in Ukraine every day at 9:00 in memory of servicemen and civilians who died as a result of Russian aggression.

At the same time, starting from September 3, cars in Kyiv are not yet being stopped. The city authorities will separately announce the date from which the new order will actually come into effect.
