Dollar weakens on the interbank and in exchange offices: new NBU rate
For Monday, September 7, the National Bank set the following official rates: - US dollar – 44.5616 UAH (-0.1657 UAH to the official rate for Friday, September 4); - euro – 51.7882 UAH (-0.15 UAH to the official rate for Friday, September 4).
The rates are set at 16:00 on September 4 and reflect the following trends:
1. On the interbank currency market today, immediately after the start of trading, non-cash dollar quotes went down amid weak buyer activity. By 12:00 they dropped to 44.59-44.60 UAH on the bid. The average deal price at 12:00 was 44.6162 UAH – 11 kopecks lower than the day before. After 13:00, the National Bank entered the market with large sales. As a result, quotes fell to 44.482 UAH on the bid. By the end of trading, the average deal price dropped even more, so the National Bank was forced to lower the official dollar rate for Monday by 16.5 kopecks.
2. The euro on the international FOREX market today in the first half of the day traded in a narrow range of 1.16162-1.16331 dollars. At 15:30, after strong US employment data came out, the euro fell to 1.1585 dollars, but a few hours later returned to its original levels. At the time of fixing, the euro was selling at 1.16217 dollars – 9.5 points higher than on Thursday (1.16122 dollars). Given the fall in the official dollar rate, the NBU was forced to lower the official euro rate for Monday by 15 kopecks.
Following the non-cash decline, cash dollar prices also fell today. By evening, in Kyiv and Kharkiv, the dollar fell by 6 kopecks compared to yesterday evening. In Dnipro and Odesa, it became cheaper by 7, and in Lviv – by as much as 12 kopecks. At the same time, the gap between cash and non-cash dollar rates grew to 26 kopecks [cash is more expensive – Ed.].
Cash currency market operators told the portal "Kurs Ukrainy" that requests for dollars and euros from representatives of small and medium-sized businesses (using cash currency) have become much fewer. "Business is dying," they sadly noted.
