The Prosecutor General's Office responded to the special operation of NABU and SAPO

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine declared full cooperation with NABU and SAPO in the investigation of possible involvement of its employee in the activities of fraudulent call centers. The PGO employee being checked by anti-corruption bodies will be suspended from official duties for the duration of the pre-trial investigation.

This is stated in the statement of the Office of the Prosecutor General, published in the evening of September 4 after the start of the special operation of NABU and SAPO.

Earlier, anti-corruption bodies reported that they were conducting an operation to expose a criminal organization, which, according to the investigation, is headed by an official of the Office of the Prosecutor General. Its members are suspected of 'protection' of a network of fraudulent call centers and legalization of property.

PGO promises to provide all information to the investigation

The Office of the Prosecutor General stated that the circumstances of the possible involvement of an employee of the agency in illegal activities should be established by investigators.

The PGO promised to provide anti-corruption bodies with all necessary information within the limits provided by law and emphasized that the episode should receive an objective legal assessment.

At the same time, the agency reported that the employee, whose possible involvement is being checked by NABU and SAPO, will be suspended from official duties for the duration of the investigation.

NABU conducts special operation in the Office of the Prosecutor General

NABU and SAPO on the evening of September 4 announced investigative actions as part of a special operation against an alleged criminal organization.

According to anti-corruption bodies, the group could provide cover for the activities of a network of fraudulent call centers, as well as engage in legalization of property. Details of the scheme itself and the full circle of its alleged participants NABU promised to reveal later.

"Ukrainska Pravda," citing sources in business circles, reported the detention of Serhiy Kropyva. At the same time, officially NABU and SAPO at the time of publication did not disclose the name of the detainee and his procedural status.

PGO reported on the fight against fraudulent call centers

Against the background of the special operation, the Office of the Prosecutor General separately published statistics of its own work on combating fraudulent call centers.

According to the agency, over the past 12 months, law enforcement officers conducted more than 1050 searches and stopped the operation of about 340 fraudulent call centers, which had more than 5,000 operator workstations.

Currently, 147 criminal proceedings related to such schemes are being investigated. More than 183 people have been notified of suspicion, and indictments against 93 people have already been sent to court.

Ukrainian prosecutors also participated in 37 international joint investigation teams coordinated by Eurojust and supported by Europol. The established damage to victims, according to the PGO, amounts to tens of millions of hryvnias..

The Office of the Prosecutor General stressed that the investigation against its own employee should not affect the systematic work to eliminate fraudulent call centers.
