City Mall in Zaporizhzhia virtually destroyed after Russian strike, Arricano promises to restore the shopping center (Updated)
The City Mall shopping and entertainment complex in Zaporizhzhia, owned by the development company Arricano, has been virtually destroyed as a result of a Russian attack on the night of September 7. Despite the extensive damage, the company has announced its intention to restore the shopping complex.
The extent of the damage was reported by the Ukrainian Council of Shopping Centers, citing Arricano.
On the night of September 7, Russian forces attacked Zaporizhzhia with drones. One of the strikes hit City Mall, after which fires broke out on the territory of the shopping complex. According to rescuers, six fires with a total area of about 700 square meters were extinguished.
After assessing the consequences of the attack, Arricano stated that the shopping complex has been virtually destroyed. At the same time, the company emphasized that it is not giving up on the property and plans its restoration.
"We will continue to make every effort to restore CITY MALL", - stated Arricano.
The company has not yet provided timelines for the reconstruction of the shopping complex or a preliminary estimate of the required investment.
There were no casualties as a result of the attack. At the time of the strike, City Mall had not been receiving visitors for several days.
The shopping center was closed shortly before the Russian strike
In early September, Arricano announced a temporary suspension of City Mall's operations until the end of the month due to a sharp deterioration in the security situation in Zaporizhzhia and an increase in Russian strikes on civilian and commercial facilities.
One of the factors in this decision was the attack on August 28 on the "Epicentr" hypermarket, located directly next to City Mall. The store building was damaged in that attack.
Arricano planned to re-evaluate the situation at the end of September and determine the future operating mode of City Mall. However, a few days after the closure, Russian forces attacked the shopping complex itself.
Second Arricano shopping center to suffer a devastating attack
The company noted that City Mall has become the second Arricano shopping complex to be seriously damaged by Russian strikes in a short period of time. The "Sonyachna Galereya" shopping center in Kryvyi Rih was attacked earlier.
City Mall was one of the largest shopping and entertainment complexes in Zaporizhzhia. Its retail area exceeded 23,000 square meters.
Arricano also manages the "Prospect" and "RayON" shopping centers in Kyiv, the "Sonyachna Galereya" shopping center in Kryvyi Rih, and has a stake in the capital's Sky Mall.
