Auchan introduced restrictions on products to keep items on shelves

Auchan stores in Ukraine have introduced limits on the number of certain products that can be purchased in a single receipt. The company stated that this is not due to shortages: the chain has separated retail and wholesale purchases so that large buyers do not take goods off shelves intended for regular customers.

This was reported by the press service of Auchan Ukraine in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.

The day before, photos of announcements from the chain's stores began circulating on social networks and Telegram channels, stating restrictions on the purchase of basic food products.

According to these announcements, canned goods, vegetable oil, vinegar, salt, sugar, flour, cereals and pasta can be purchased in quantities of up to six units or up to six kilograms of weighed goods per receipt. For eggs, the limit is up to six dozen.

Auchan Ukraine denied suggestions that such measures are related to product shortages. The company explained the restrictions as stemming from the separation of customer flows.

"To efficiently distribute demand, we have separated retail and wholesale purchases. As stated in the announcement, goods in quantities exceeding six units or six kilograms can be purchased at the address designated for wholesale purchases," the chain said.

Thus, it is not a complete ban on buying products in large quantities. Customers who need to purchase more than the retail limit are directed to a separate channel for wholesale purchases.

The company explained that this system is designed to prevent a situation where wholesale buyers massively buy goods from retail shelves. This, according to representatives of the chain, will allow maintaining the necessary assortment for visitors to regular stores.

Similar restrictions were previously introduced by ATB supermarket chain. There, buyers were also allowed to purchase in one receipt no more than six kilograms of certain bulk and solid products, six packages or bottles of some goods and up to six dozen eggs. ATB explained the decision by mass purchases of cheap social goods for subsequent resale.
