Sybiha ridiculed Lavrov's statement about 'eradicating Nazism in Europe'

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reacted sharply to the statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov about the alleged need to "eradicate Nazism in Europe." The Ukrainian minister said that to achieve such a goal, Russia should conduct its "special military operation" on its own territory.

Sybiha wrote this on September 7 on the social network X.

"To achieve such a goal, a special military operation in the European part of Russia would be needed," the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

Thus Sybiha responded to Lavrov's speech before students of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. The Russian minister claimed that the war against Ukraine, which Moscow calls a "special military operation," should end in such a way that there would allegedly "no longer be Nazism in Europe."

The theme of "denazification" has been used by the Russian authorities since the beginning of the full-scale invasion as one of the public justifications for the war against Ukraine. Now Lavrov has extended this rhetoric to Europe, linking the outcome of the war to the broader question of Russia's position and influence.

Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly rejected Russian statements about "Nazism" and "denazification," calling them propaganda justifications for aggression. The current comment by Sybiha was a response directly to the new statement by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
