Trump and Burnham held talks on ending the war in Ukraine

US President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham held a phone conversation on September 7, during which they discussed the Russia-Ukraine war. The leaders agreed that it is necessary to continue working towards achieving a ceasefire.

This was reported by the press service of the British government following the conversation.

According to a statement from Downing Street, Trump and Burnham agreed on the need to continue efforts to achieve a ceasefire that would prevent further human losses.

Burnham also confirmed the UK's support for Ukraine and expressed support for the latest peace talks led by the US. The British government did not disclose any other details of possible agreements or further steps on the Ukrainian direction.

The conversation took place against the backdrop of intensified American diplomatic efforts regarding ending the war. In recent days, the US President's representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held talks first in Moscow and then in Kyiv.

After the meeting with the American representatives, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Washington is studying options for resuming the peace process and possible steps to reduce escalation before winter. Among the issues discussed, he mentioned energy infrastructure, grain, electric power, as well as oil and gas.

Besides Ukraine, Trump and Burnham discussed the economic situation. The British Prime Minister congratulated the US President on the latest employment figures in the United States and noted signs of growth in the British economy.

A separate topic was the Middle East. Burnham declared the UK's commitment to achieving peace and security in the region, emphasizing the importance of a two-state solution, the resumption of full shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

The parties agreed to continue contacts in the near future.
